GRAVETTE RURAL CARRIER CELEBRATED AS A HERO

Gravette Rural Carrier Michelle Howard recently received a letter from the Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan for her bravery and selfless civic duty.

Michelle noticed smoke coming from a house on her route. After knocking on the door and not getting a response, she asked a neighbor to call emergency personnel.  Michelle later learned that the homeowner was asleep in the house. Her early alert resulted in minimal damage to the house and probably saved the homeowner's life.

Thank you Michelle for your service and commitment to your community and customers.

MABELVALE RURAL CARRIER A LOCAL HERO

Mabelvale, AR Rural Carrier Michael Baquial

On a recent Friday afternoon, Mabelvale, AR Rural Carrier Michael Baquial pulled up to a mailbox on his route and noticed a woman lying face up on the ground in her yard.

He left the vehicle to check on the lady and discovered she was unconscious; fire ants were covering her face. He went directly to the neighbor and had them call 911 for help. Mr. Baquial stayed with the woman, removing the fire ants and attempted to wake her up. He checked her pulse to make sure she was still alive.

While holding her in his lap she awakened. She had placed mail in her mailbox around noon and had been lying in her yard unconscious for over two hours due to an epilepsy incident.  Fire and rescue arrived to render medical assistance. If not for Mr. Baquail’s quick thinking this might have turned out differently. Mr. Baquial also checked on her the next day and was presented with a thank you card.
